Level 4: Opera House
You begin the level sliding down the ramp of the previous level. You finally land on a wooden platform in front of a swinging crate. A thug is patrolling on the ledge below. If you want to kill him now, jump to the flat part of the roof on the right hand side (as shown in this screenshot) and shoot him from there. Jump into the water, climb on the ledge the thug was and pick up his Automatic Pistol Clips (or a pair of Automatic Pistols if you do not have them). Swim to the far left area of the pool (if the entrance is to your back) and climb up the ladder. Dismount on the first ledge, but before continue climbing up the ladder, turn around. Pull onto the ledge and use the switch. This will open a trapdoor in the building opposite the swinging crate and the camera will focus on a Key. Jump to grab the ladder and dismount on the ledge to the right. Avoid back-flipping or you may fall into the water again. Turn around and jump to the next ledge. Take a running jump to the white ledge at the other side and another running jump to grab the wooden platform where the swinging crate is. Shimmy a bit to the right and pull up. (Note: If you do not wish to drop into the pool at all, here is another way of reaching the switch. From the starting position, turn left and walk to the edge. Be careful, because the crate can hurt you. Take a running jump to the opposite white ledge and turn right. Again, take a running jump to the ledge close to the ladder. Jump to grab the ladder and back-flip to the ledge with the switch. See this screenshot to get oriented.) Back to the start – Now carefully take running jump across the water to drop through the trapdoor you just opened (as shown in this screenshot). A bad guy attacks, so take care of him. Pick up the Ornate Key and go up the steps. A second bad guy emerges from the top of the stairs. Start shooting at him whilst jumping backwards. Once he is dead, pick up his Small Medi Pack and go through the door he came from. This is the ledge where you used the switch. Once again, jump to grab the ladder, drop to the ledge, take a running jump to the white ledge on the opposite side and another running jump to grab the wooden platform with the swinging crate. Shimmy to the right and pull up. Back to the start (again) - Proceed to the end of the platform and stand having the swinging crate on your left and the ramp you slid when you began the level on your right. Take a running jump to the flat part of the roof and a standing jump to the flat ledge below on the left (see this screenshot to get oriented). Drop backwards and shimmy to the left until you see the windowsill beneath you. Release Action and press it again to grab the edge of the windowsill. Pull up and shoot the window. Use the Walk button to walk through the blades. Go the left where you will find a ladder. Climb to the top and use the Ornate Key at the end of the passage to open the door. Follow the passage around to the left and climb up the next ladder. The decrepit roof – You may want to save your game here, although reaching the opposite side is not so hard. Do it just in case, because it is a long drop down and you will kill Lara. Stand to the right hand side of the ledge (close to the slope, but do not stick to it) and take a standing jump to the wooden decrepit roof. Start running and jump at the edge of the roof. Keep running and again jump at the edge of the decrepit roof to grab the opposite ledge. Pull up and go to the right. Climb to the passage above and follow it to the end. Opera's roof – A thug is waiting for you below, so do not drop down yet and use the walls alongside the opening for cover. Once he is dead, hang from the edge to alert a bad guy and two Dobermans and pull up again. Kill them all from here and drop down. The thug dropped Automatic Pistol Clips and the bad guy a Large Medi Pack. For your information, two more thugs are patrolling at the other side of the dome. To easily kill them, jump on the dome using its corner close to the opening you came from and go around the perimeter. Use the dome as a cover (by jumping backwards if necessary) and kill both. Once they are dead, slide to the ground and pick up their Small Medi Pack and Shotgun Shells. As you move around, be careful of the pits, because there are blades at the bottom. You may have noticed the Gold Dragon in one of the pits (it is the level's final Secret), but do not waste your time trying to get it now. You need to reach the alcove with the swinging crate. Climb on the dome and as you face the swinging crate, stand on the flat ledge to the left. This ledge ends up to a slide. Not the extended alone flat ledge in the corner of the dome (see this screenshot if you are not sure). Walk to the front left corner and turn slightly left to aim the ledge on the left of the crate. Tap back once and take a running jump to grab the ledge. Pull up and drop down at the other side. Push the button to open the trapdoor at the bottom of the dome and release one thug and a bad guy. Climb back outside and kill them from here. The thug drops Flares and Shotgun Shells. Getting inside the Opera House – Drop through the trapdoor you just opened. There are two switches here: the right one does not do anything because you miss a circuit, but the left switch opens the nearby gate. This gives you the access to the Opera. Use it, drop backwards to grab the half grating ladder, climb down a bit and drop down. Just behind the corner on the right, you will find a button that closes the gate you just opened in order to unblock the opening from where you can enter the Opera. If you want, head to the end of the steps to trigger a boulder trap that may surprise you later. As long as you stay to the side of the button, you will not get damaged. You need to climb back up the ladder, so stand at the edge of the higher step beneath it and jump up to grab it. Dismount into the opening on the left. Inside the Opera - Notice the sandbag ahead. You will meet several of those in the level and they drop down when you pass beneath them. If you keep running without stopping, the sandbags will fall behind you. Before dropping down, hang from the edge to alert a thug and pull up. Kill him from here (stepping backwards if necessary for cover) and safely drop down. Pick up his Small Medi Pack and run beneath the sandbag to get rid of it. (Note – There is MAJOR shortcut you can take here that leads you almost to the end of the level. You will miss several pick-ups and kills, and all the Secrets, but if you want to try it, check the note about the Major shortcut at the end of the page.) Making your way to the ground - If you take a look around, you will see that you are at the top part (3rd level) of the Opera. Facing the railings and the pool, go to the right. A thug and his Doberman emerge from the doors ahead. Take care of them and head to the left to reach an opening in the floor. If you take a look at the other side, you will see a thug patrolling on the lower (2nd) level. You can kill him now if you want or leave him for later. Carefully drop to the lower ledge (2nd level) and then to the lower one (1st level). Before dropping to the ground, go to the end of the ledge, having the pool to your back. Take a running jump to grab the opposite ledge and pull up. Drop backwards from the right side (you still have the pool to your back - see this screenshot) to alert a bad guy and two Dobermans that come out from a door below. Pull up and kill them from here. Otherwise, they will come out when you pass in front of the door and you will lose health. Drop to the ground and pick up the Large Medi Pack the guy dropped. Avoid going through the door he came from, because there is nothing more than a boulder trap. Ground/ Making your way up to the 2nd level - Notice the doors on the left (if you have the pool on your right). Two boulder traps are activated when you pass in front of the doors. You may want to activate them now or you may get surprised later. Be careful: there are two boulder traps, so make sure you activate both. If you approach the pool, a thug will emerge from the stage, so take care of him. Pull onto the 1st level. It is low enough and you can reach it. Then go to the left (if you face the pool). Take a standing jump to grab the ledge of the 2nd level and pull up (this screenshot shows how you can climb on the 2nd level). Turn around, and if you did not do it before, kill the thug. Jump to the other side and pick up the two sets of Automatic Pistol Clips he dropped. Go to the opening close where you pulled up. Drop to the ledge and notice the ledge with the gates below. Take a standing jump towards the wall, pressing Action to lower Lara's arch and land on the ledge. Draw weapons and kill the thug and the two rats. Turn around and kill the rat on the lower ledge. If you cannot land on the ledge with the thug, drop into the pool below and climb out of the water, killing the rat there. Turn around and jump to grab the upper ledge. Pull up, kill the rat and turn around. Again, jump to grab the ledge where the thug is. Go to the right and kill the Doberman that is running down the stairs. Go up the stairs and follow the hallway to reach some windows. Shoot them and enter into the dressing room. Dressing room and ventilation ducts – Drop down into the dressing room and use the switch to open the door. Slide down forwards and jump to grab the block ahead in order to avoid the moving fan below. Pull up and pick up the Ornate Key. Climb up the next two blocks and turn right. Jump to the slide ahead and before you reach the edge, jump to land into the duct. If you miss the jump and land on the first slide, press Jump to land on the block you got the Key and try again. If you accidentally slide backwards, jump whilst Lara is reaching the edge in order to back-flip into the duct. Head to the end of the duct killing a rat on your way. Walk to the edge and take a standing jump to the duct ahead. Lara's head will bump on the ceiling but you will land in safely. The running jump works fine as well. From the backside of the duct, take a standing jump (or back-flip) to land on the ledge above the fan. Do the same to reach the upper room. 1st Secret – Turn around and take a standing jump to grab the dark opening. Pull up and carefully proceed until you reach the Jade Dragon. Do not go beyond the Dragon, because the moving fan at the back will kill you. To return back, walk up to the edge and take a standing jump, pressing Action to lower Lara's arch. Pull the movable block once to reveal a button behind that opens the door, giving you the access back to the dressing room. Having the door on your left, pull the block once. Go to the right side of it and push it outside and into the dressing room. Keep pushing until you cannot push it further. Climb on the ledge and shoot the window. When you enter, a bad guy appears above. For now, push\ pull the second movable block onto the first one. Climb on the blocks you moved and kill the guy from here. If he leaves, climb on the windowsill to alert him. Then drop backwards onto the crate. Once you are done, follow back the hallway to reach the ledge above the pool. Take a standing jump to grab the ledge above and pull up. Vault onto the ledge and you are back on the 2nd level of the Opera. (The Ornate Key you got fits to the keyhole at the end of the ledge. You can use it now if you want, but there is no reason to do it now, because you are missing something.) Stage and two openings alongside – Carefully drop to the ground and jump into the pool. Use the crate to climb on the stage, but do not proceed ahead because a sandbag is falling down. Kill the Doberman that is coming from the left and turn around to kill the thug that is shooting from behind. If you killed the thug from the stage before, pick up his Uzi Clips. If you cannot see this thug, you need to go to the other side of the Opera (beneath the ledges) in order to trigger him. In order to move freely on the stage, two sandbags need to be down. If only one is on the stage, run around to trigger the second one. Enter the room on the left (if the pool is to your back) and use the switch to open a gate above the opening at the other side of the stage. Exit and go to the other side of the stage. Two bad guys are inside, so take care of them and pick up the Large Medi Pack one of them drops. There are two sandbags in the room - one on each side. If you want, run beneath them so you can move freely. From the entrance, jump up to grab the ledge above, where the gate you opened is. Carefully go to the left, around the blades, to reach the raised bridge. Turn left and take a running jump to grab the lower part of the crevice. Shimmy to the left until you can pull up. Use the switch to lower the bridge. Take a running jump back to the bridge and go to the end. Take a running jump to grab the wooden platform on the left and pull up. Climb into the alcove and turn around. Kill the rat on the opposite ledge and take a running jump to grab this ledge. Pull up and walk to the edge. Stand on either side, and jump when the swinging sandbag moves to the other side. Cross the ledge and do the same for the second swinging sandbag. Use the switch to release a sandbag that will fall on the stage and open a trapdoor. Slide down the ramp and just before reaching the edge, jump to fall through the trapdoor and into the pool below. If you cannot make it, make your way down to the stage the same way you came and drop into (do not try to reach the ledge opposite the slide. You are waisting your time). Pool beneath the stage – There are two openings here: one on the left where Lara can walk and one that you need to dive down. First, go to the one on the left where Lara can walk and the water is until her waist. Follow the tunnel as it goes to the left, dive a bit and surface. Climb on the ledge where the water is until Lara's kneels and use the switch to open a door back in the Opera (on the 2nd level). 2nd Secret – Turn around but before leaving, locate the small opening on the far left. Swim through it to get the Silver Dragon and return back to surface. Make your way back to the flooded room where you jumped into and now follow the other way by diving down. Surface and climb on the ledge at the bottom of the ladder. Pick up the Relay Box and climb up the ladder to return back to the Opera through the door you just opened. At the top - Climb on the topmost (3rd) level and go to the other side around to the right, past the opening you first entered the Opera. Follow the passage on the left and kill the two Dobermans. Place the Relay Box to repair the elevator and use the switch to open the doors. Do not enter! Let it to go down. (If you came here before and used the switch, which means that it is down now, you just need to place the Relay Box). 3rd Secret – Take a diagonal standing jump to grab the edge at the top of the ladder and pull up. Or, jump on top of the descending elevator and turn right. Jump up to grab the ladder and climb to the top. Walk through the blades and pick up the Gold Dragon (plus four sets of Uzi Clips as a reward for finding all the Secrets). Use the switch in the alcove to the left to open the exit door and carefully walk through the blades. Just in front of the door, you will find some Uzi Clips (or a pair of Uzis if you do not have them). Exit and go to the right to return back to the elevator shaft. Getting inside the elevator - Use the switch again to call the elevator. The doors open automatically. You need to use the switch once more in order to close the door, but enter quickly before the doors close. Enter and ride down. When the doors open again, draw weapons and step outside. Two thugs attack, so take care of them and pick up the two Shotgun Shells they drop. Once you trigger them, you can jump back inside the elevator. You can kill them at your ease from there. Use the switch on the left to send the elevator up and reveal a pool below. Drop into the water, swim down to the left and stick to the steps. Swim through the opening on the left and follow the tunnel until you can surface. Get the Circuit Board and swim back down again. If you need air, you can surface where the elevator was. Now swim back down and go to the other side (to the right) where you can find an underwater lever. This opens the nearby gate, so swim through it. Surface and climb out of the water (you may have to kill a rat here, depending on if you were here before). Back to the 2nd level of the Opera - Take standing jumps to grab each ledge until you reach the 2nd level of the Opera. Go to the far right of the ledge and if you have not done so, use the Ornate Key to the keyhole to open the doors. Take a diagonal standing jump to the doorway, pressing Action to lower Lara's arch. If you did not activate the boulder trap before, be careful now. Drop down and go to the other side to avoid the rolling boulders. Press the button again to open the gate. Grab the ladder and climb to the top to return back to the room where you first entered the Opera. Place the Circuit Board and use the right hand switch to raise the scrim of the stage. (Note – If you used this switch when you first entered this room, nothing happened. So, you just need to place the Circuit now. Make sure that the switch is down. Its initial position is up. To verify this, take a look at the stage through the grate next to the panel you placed the Circuit. You should now see red flags on the stage wall, an opening and maybe a guy lurking around.) Climb down the ladder again, climb to the doorway you came from (where you used the Ornate key) and safely drop to the ground of the Opera. Approach the pool. If you wait for a bit, a thug will emerge from the backstage. Kill him from here and jump into the pool. Use the crate to climb on the stage and pick up his Shotgun Shells. There is one more remaining sandbag. Run in front of the entrance of the backstage to drop it down. Backstage – For your information, two bad guys and a Doberman will attack from the left hand side as soon as you enter. So, enter and run to the far right corner, jumping on the low crate (or grab it and pull up). Kill them from here, drop down and pick up the Small Medi Pack one the guys dropped. As you face the entrance, locate the movable block to the right, at the bottom of the stack (if you cannot find it, see this screenshot). Pull it twice to reveal a passage. Go behind it and use the switch to lower the stage scrim. This will give you the access to one of its ledges. Exit and climb on the crates to the right of the entrance to reach an opening that leads to the top of the scrim. Exit carefully and avoid the left hand part, because a sandbag will fall down. A bad guy is now on the stage, so kill him from here. If he leaves, hang from the edge to lure him back, pull up and shoot him again. He does not leave anything, so do not bother going down. Continue to the right (if you face the pool) and drop to the wooden platform. The opening in the floor leads to a closed door, so take a standing jump to the doorway. Use the switch to open the door at the other side, behind the swinging sandbag. The switch also opens the door below in case you miss the jump and fall down. To get passed the sandbag, stand on either corner of the doorway and tap back once. You are ready to take a running jump, so start running when the sandbag is ready to reach your side and not when it is ready to leave. Until you jump and whilst in midair, the sandbag will have moved to the other side. Room with crates and swinging crates – You can see a swinging crate in front of you. Do not drop down because you are not alone (as always). Walk to the front right corner of the opening and turn right 45 degrees, aiming the crates on the right. Tap back once and when the crate moves to the left, take a running jump to the crates. A fat guy with two pistols and two Dobermans appear below. This guy is really tough, so watch out. When you shoot him, he leaves and patrols around the crates. Wait for him to show himself from the right hand side, below the crates you are standing on. For cover, you can stick to the wall behind you where his shots cannot reach you. Once you are done, do not drop down yet. Walk a bit to the right (away from the entrance) and take a standing jump to the crates beneath the swinging crate. From the back left corner, take a standing jump to grab the next stack of crates beneath the second swinging crate. Pull up, walk to the other side and turn left to face the side of the entrance. Take a running jump to the crates where the button is and push it to open the exit at the back of the room (this screenshot shows the above procedure). This also releases a thug, so kill him from above. Now drop down and pick up the Uzi Clips of the last thug, plus three sets of Grenades from the tough guy (one of the set of Grenades will be the Grenade Launcher if you do not have it). Go to the back of the room. A thug appears, so decide if you want to kill him or ignore him by going through the exit. For your information, he drops a Small Medi Pack and Uzi Clips. Go towards the plane to end the level. The cut scene shows Lara entering the plane and examining the crates around. She hears voices from the cockpit, but the noise of the engine let her hear just a few words of Fabio (the pilot) and Marco (the other man). She starts climbing up the ladder that leads to the cockpit when Marco gets up and open the door of the cockpit. Lara drops down and points her gun towards him. Eros comes out of the cockpit, gets a wrench and hits Lara to the back of her head.
Major shortcut – By taking this shortcut, you will miss lots of pick-ups, kills and all Secrets. If you want to try it, here is the way: Start the level and proceed normally as the walkthrough's normal route describes, until you finally enter the Opera House, through the trapdoor on the roof and then through the door above where the two switches and button are. You find yourself on the top level of the balconies – the stage is in front of you below and to the back left is the passage that leads to the elevator. Proceed to the front left and move towards the stage. Having the stage to your right, walk along the platform sticking to the edge, until you come across the golden pillar blocking your way. Look to the right and slightly lower. There is a wooden platform sticking out from the wall ahead of you below. Your aim is not this wooden platform (it is too far), but the colorful carpeted one, that is attached to the wooden platform, and is not extended. You need to take a running jump there, pressing the left direction key in midair. This screenshot shows where you need to jump. Once you make it, you will find yourself close to the Room with crates and swinging crates, which is next to the end of the level!
