In this mode, Lara automatically points her guns and locks onto the nearest or most directly facing enemy. If more than one enemy are close, rotate the camera to change the target.
• Advanced Hold: Press the Target Lock button to draw weapons and hold this button to keep your weapons drawn. Release the Target Lock button to holster your weapons. In this mode, Lara points her guns at a general direction, but the nearest enemy has been targeted (red reticule). To make Lara point her guns and shoot this enemy, press the Shoot button. This will also lock the target.
• Advanced Toggle: Press the Target Lock button to draw weapons and press again to holster them. In this mode, Lara points her guns at a general direction, but the nearest enemy has been targeted (red reticule). To make Lara point her guns and shoot this enemy, press the Shoot button. |
Evades: They can be very useful when you deal with many emenies at the same time. A moving target is much harder to hit than a static one. When you lock onto a target, Lara can evade the enemy's attack. Press any directional key followed by either the Crouch button (to perform a directional roll) or the Jump button (to perform a somersault).
Adrenaline Dodge (followed by the Head Shot): This special move helps Lara evade from an enemy when the latter becomes enraged. This happens in two occasions:
• Boss fights (e.g T-Rex, Centaurs etc), where the rage bar fills and flashes red.
• Normal enemies during the game, where a glow circles the enemy.
In both cases, an emeny becomes enraged when you shoot repeatedly. When this happens, the enemy will perform a Rage Attack. Lara's adrenaline will kick in to respond to the threat. The screen will then blur which means that Lara can now perform the Adrenaline Dodge. Once the screen blurs, wait for the enemy to run towards Lara. Press any direction key (the Left and Right ones work better) along with the Crouch button to evade. You must press and hold the Crouch button until the Adrenaline procedure is done. If you just tap it, it will not work.
If you do it correctly, Lara will go into slow motion and two gray reticules will appear on your screen: one from the left and one from the right. Wait until the gray reticules come together over the head and turn into red, and press the Shoot button to perform the Head Shot. If you shoot before the gray reticules turn into red, Lara will not perform the Head Shot.
If done correctly, the Head Shot will either reduce the enemy's health (boss fights) or kill the enemy instantly (during the game). Bear in mind that timing the dodge is critical. If you dodge too late, an enemy can still hit Lara. |

Advanced Movement Controls |
During the game, you will have to perform advanced movements controls. If you have the Manual Grab enabled, you must press the appropriate button and have it compressed for the time Lara hangs/ grabs an object. Note though that Lara cannot perform any of these if you have your weapons drawn.
• Ledges: Lara can grab onto ledges when you Jump towards them. If Lara grabs a ledge with one hand, press the Interact button to correct. To shimmy along the ledge, press the desired direction key (Left or Right) along with the Interact button if you want to move faster. To pull up or grab the above ledge, press Jump. To release and drop down/ grab the lower ledge, press Crouch. While hanging from a ledge, Lara can perform lateral jumps. To do that, press the desired direction key (Left, Right, Down) alond with the Jump button.
• Ladders: Approach a ladder and Lara will grab it automatically. Press Up/ Down to climb/ descend the ladder. If you want to climb up the ladder faster, press the Interact button. For lateral jumps, press Left or Right along with the Jump button. If you want to leap off the ladder and grab a ledge behind, press Jump. To release and drop down, press the Crouch button.
• Horizontal poles: Lara can grab horizontal poles and swing across gaps to gain access to areas she is unable to climb to. Position Lara beneath a pole and press Jump. Or, run to the direction of a pole and Jump. Once you grab the pole, turn Lara to face the desired direction. Assuming the camera is behind Lara, press the Up direction key to start swinging. Press Jump to flip to the next pole or on an opposite ledge. (If you have the Manual Grab enabled, you can release the button in order to leap off the pole, and press it again to grab the next one.)
• Vertical Structures: Lara can grab and climb vertical structures in order to reach areas above and below her. Approach a vertical structure and Lara will grab it. To rotate around, press the Right and Left direction keys. To climb or descent, press Up or Down. To jump off a vertical structure, press the desired direction key along with Jump. To release and drop down, press the Crouch button.
• Perching: Lara can jump and land on thin vertical structures by Jumping towards them. Once there, press Left and Right to rotate. To jump off, press the desired direction key along with the Jump button. If Lara lands incorrectly on the vertical structure or stays there for a long time, she will lose her balance. To correct, press the Interact button.
• Ropes: To grab a rope, Jump towards it. To rotate on the rope and face the desired direction, use the Left and Right keys. To climb up or down the rope, press and hold the Interact button along with the Up or Down direction keys. Assuming the camera is behind Lara, press Up or Down to build momentum and swing higher. Press Jump to leap off the rope. To release, press the Crouch button.
• Grappling: Lara can use her Grapple and clear wide gaps that she cannot jump across. To use your Grapple for this reason, a ring must be above the gap. To activate the Grapple device, jump off the ledge and press the Grapple button (PC: Q, PS2: Square) to catch the ring. Swingning, climbing and jumping off the Grapple line is the same as the Rope (see above).
• Wall Running: Lara can run on the walls and reach far ledges by using her Grapple. To perform the wall run, a ring must be mounted on the wall. To activate the Grapple device, jump off the ledge and press the Grapple button (PC: Q, PS2: Square) to catch the ring. You can maneuver Lara by having the camera either behind Lara (perpendicular to the wall) or to the side of Lara (parallel to the wall). However, the first way seems easier for many players.
Once you catch the ring, position the camera behind Lara (perpendicular to the wall). Press the Left and Right direction keys (back and forth) to start the wall run and gain momentum. Let's say that the destination ledge is to your left. Once Lara reaches the highest point to the left, press Jump while having the Left button still compressed. Lara will release the Grapple line and jump to the left.
There are times where the destination ledge is behind Lara and diagonally to the left or right. For a successful jump, the procedure lightly differs. Let's say that the destination ledge is behind Lara and diagonally to the left (for example, Damocles room in St. Francis Folly). First, examine the position of the destination ledge comparably to the wall. Have in mind that when Lara reaches the highest point while wall-running, she must not exceed the position of the destination ledge. This means that you may have to climb up or down the Grapple line, so once Lara reaches the highest point while wall-running, the destination ledge should be behind her. This can be determined by trial and error. Once you catch the ring, perform the wall run as usual. When Lara wall-runs to the left, release the Left button when she reaches the highest point, and press Down and Jump to leap off the Grapple line and jump backwards. |

Inventory |
The Inventory is basically what Lara carries in her backpack and is similar to the original Tomb Raider game. It consists of two ring menus:
• When you enter, you can see the Gear ring. This contains the guns, ammo and Medipacks that Lara has found. Press the Left or Right direction key to rotate the ring. Apart from the methods that were explained above, you can use these items from the Inventory too. Rotate the ring until the item you want comes to the center. Then press Enter (PC) or X (PS2) to select it. If it is a Medipack, Lara will restore her health (Small: 25%, Large: 100%). If you select a weapon, Lara will draw it.
• From the Gear ring, press Down to bring up the Items ring which contains all items Lara has found. These can be keys, puzzle pieces etc. You can examine any of the items, but to use them, you have to stand in front of the spot that the item belongs. The Items ring also contains Lara's Journal that you can use and read her thoughts on certain situations. |

HUD (Heads UP Display) |
When you press the HUD key, the camera shifts behind Lara and some useful information appear on screen.
Top Left: The light green bar indicates Lara's health. If you are in the water, you will also be able to see a green bar which indicates the amount of air Lara has left when swimming underwater. Exactly beneath the two bars, you can see the number of Large and Small Medipacks.
Bottom Left: In this corner appears the weapon that Lara has currently selected. Exactly below you can see the available ammunition for the specific weapon. The number on the right shows the total amount of ammo you have and the one on the left shows the number of rounds in the clip. When the clip gets empty, Lara reloads (although you can do it manually at any time by pressing the Interact button whilse having your weapons drawn).
Top right: In this corner two bars appear; a yellow and a red one. When you fight with level bosses, the yellow bar shows the enemy's health and in most cases it must drop to zero. The red one indicates the enemy's rage. When you shoot repeatedly, the bar starts filling, causing the enemy to become enraged. In this case, the bar flashes red and the enemy attacks (Adrenaline Dodge).
Bottom Right: A hint icon appears which indicates that Lara can interact with nearby objects. To see this icon, you have to enable the Hint Icons from the Options. In this corner also appears the remaining time to complete a Time a Trial. |
